Investor’s Business Daily - The provider of Internet telecom services partnered with Virtual Computing Environment to speed up deployment of its cloud-computing services. VCE was formed by Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO - News) and EMC with investments from VMware and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC - News) and is making its VBlock platform available to 8×8 (NASDAQ:EGHT - News) to help it accelerate its cloud-based products. With VBlock’s help, 8×8 will pursue larger enterprise and gov’t clients. 8×8 leapt 9.9% to 5.

brings tricks other tablets don’t have. It can be connected to a keyboard, monitor and mouse to act like a desktop. Using an app to connect to a virtual desktop replicates a full PC experience, Cisco claims. The Cius also encrypts all data and is easily controlled by IT managers, who can control access to apps and other features.”

Oracle said Wednesday morning that it’s buying Pillar Data Systems, a 10-year-old storage house that belongs mostly to Oracle chief Larry Ellison.
It’s like the way Sun used to buy companies that belonged to founder Andy Bechtolsheim. That’s how Sun came by OpenOffice.
Oracle says the Pillar deal was cut by an independent committee of its board and is structured as a 100% earn-out with no upfront payment. The acquisition should close in July and whatever Oracle winds up paying is supposed to be immaterial.
Pillar makes highly scalable ZFS-based Axiom SAN Block I/O storage systems. Buying it is supposed to help flesh out the storage line Oracle got with Sun.
